Blog #8 sonnet
My strength is finally breaking.
A beautiful girl so innocent and pure,
How could such an amazing life be taken?
I think of you and couldn't ever have asked for more.
I go on knowing that your watching over me,
Just living my life day by day
I hope everything I say and do you can see.
But it will get easier, at least that's what they say.
My heart will always hold a spot for you
Everyone will remember you always and forever,
And I'll be thinking of you until I'm up there too.
Your beautiful soul I will always treasure.
You are now an angel only here in spirit,
But I'll continue to talk to you, because I know you can hear it.

The Vietnam war is very heart-wrenching to me because of the fact my grandfather faught in it. This war has given him PTSD, post traumatic stress disorder. Loud noises or explotions startle him because of the terrible memories it brings back from fighting. The Vietnam War was mainly because of the fight to prevent the spread of communism. Our country decided to join to help the military by sending aid to other countries being invaded. My grandfather has told me that this war reminded him of previous ones because of he fact that our country kept invading spaces that were unknown and unclarified to us. Communism is the biggest cause of this war which is what always first comes to mind when I think of it.

Are we able to break free of our cultural heritage? What are the ways society tries to keep us in line? How do some people break free? Is there a danger in disregarding societal norms? Are there benefits?
Anyone can technically "break free" of their cultural heritage if thats what they want to do. However, at the end of the day you will always still be that heritage and have that background. Society does what it can to keep us in line by following cultural norms and practicing their religion, yet it doesn't mean that everyone does what they must. Some people may not want to grow up in a certain enviornment and they break away. Depending on the cultural, there definitly could be danger to yourself if you are one of the people who choose to break free of your cultural heritage1

Boyle made me see that what happened in this story was absoluely terrible. There is other ways to get rid of an unwanted child then throwing a baby down a garbage shoot! First off, if you protect yourself and are smart that is the first way to prevent having a child. Other ways are adoption, or abortion. Although these are both touchy subjects, they are both better then torture! If China truly could not handle it she should have done something legal to get rid of the poor child. Of course China and Jeremy are condemned by their peers after reading such a heart-wrenching story! There is no explination for doing something so low and disgusting like what these two did.

Did reading your peers essays unravel or reinforce your own essay's arguments?
By reading my peers essays it helped me get other points of view on how to write. I looked at little things like transition words to be able to make my paper even better as well. Also I liked seeing the other side to the topic and seeing how people could argue my paper. I needed a good amount of changed to be made to my essay. They really helped by reading and correcting my mistakes.
